Center For Psychological Services FAQ

Have a psychological services-related question? We have the answer. Check out these FAQs and give us a call today for more information!

  • What can I expect in therapy?

Once you have decided to participate in therapy, you may feel apprehensive and nervous about the process.  In therapy, you can expect to be treated with respect and compassion as you are given the opportunity to share problems and work towards resolution.  Your therapist will listen carefully and ask thoughtful questions to individualize your care. In addition, your therapist will provide guidance and direction as well as assist with identifying and changing problematic patterns of thought or behavior.

  • What happens during the first session?

During the first session, the therapist will explain policies/procedures, obtain a detailed history, and answer any questions that you may have regarding the counseling process. The initial session is the time for you to start to share your story, to talk about your goals, and what you would like to change.  Sessions typically last 45 - 60 minutes.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Yes, insurance is accepted.  Insurance coverage depends on the therapist that you have. Accepted insurance plans include: Aetna, Behavioral Health Systems, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Fairview Health Systems, Health Partners, Humana, LifeSynch, Medica, Medicaid, Medicare, PreferredOne, South Country Health Care, TRICARE, UCare, UnitedHealthcare, ValueOptions.  Many of our providers also provide EAP services through Empathia, Espyr, Sand Creek, Morneau Shepell, Vital, etc. There is also a cash pay option for therapy services.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

We require a 24 hour notice to change or cancel an appointment. A $70 late cancel/no show fee may be charged if sufficient notice is not given. Late cancels/no shows may also jeopardize your ability to continue therapy services at this agency.

  • Do you provide psychological evaluations or testing?

No, Center for Psychological Services does not provide evaluations or testing.  Our services include individual, marriage, or family therapy.

  • Do you prescribe medication?

No, our agency does not offer psychiatric care or medication management services.  Talk with your health care provider if you are considering taking medications. While medications often work more quickly than counseling, it does not teach you how to respond to situations differently.

  • Is therapy confidential?

The information and content shared in therapy will remain confidential, with the exception of the following circumstances:

    • If the abuse of a child or vulnerable adult is suspected
    • If the therapist believes that the client is a danger to themselves or others
    • If the therapist or records are subpoenaed by court
  • Are parents required to attend therapy sessions for child/adolescent therapy appointments?

For the initial session for a child therapy appointment, the parent/guardian will attend the intake session individually to discuss history and for the therapist to gather information about the current issues.  The child will then attend during a follow-up session.  For ages 13 and up, the adolescent may join the parent or guardian during the initial session.  In subsequent sessions, parent/guardian involvement will be determined by the therapist and discussed with parent/guardian at the initial session. Parents/guardians are requested to stay in the waiting room during child/adolescent appointments unless other arrangements are made with the therapist.
